My first attempt at Art Clay Silver

A week or so ago I bought ten tiny grams of Art Clay Silver. If you're not familiar with this it's a clay that performs alchemy-type magic. When fired it turns from clay into fine silver. I've been reading lots about Art Clay Silver and have been slowly gathering bits and pieces for working with it and today I had my first go at making something with it. I am SO pleased with these oh-so-geeky-but-oh-so-unique Darth Vader earrings!

It's quite rare that I actually make jewellery for myself and I'm wearing these shiny danglies as I type. In actual fact they could be shinier so I'm going to give them another polish later. That's the thing - watching the material turn from white to shiny chrome-finish silver as you brush, sand and polish could become quite addictive . . . . . . .

  2. Thanks Caroline. Art Clay Silver is fantastic stuff - great fun!

Yeah - I like 'different' jewellery. It's nice to know that you're wearing something that no-one else is, isn't it?!

  8. Thank you!

It is fab stuff, Janine. My sister was reading my Silver Clay book today and she came up with loads of ideas - I think she wants to have a go now! I've always wanted to make silver things but I don't have time to do a silversmithing course and I can't fit silversmithing in with the lampwork unless someone arranges a few more hours in the day! The Art Clay Silver's great because I can make silver bits and bobs as and when.

  10. Do tell where you got the mold to make them, I am so jealous!

  11. Dixie - I made the mould using a vintage '77 Darth Vader ring that I have.

  12. Now I must head over to eBay and find a Darth ring...unless you would be willing to cast another one....

  13. I would,Dixie, but I no longer have the moulding compound stuff. Sorry!

You should be able to find something similar on eBay. They released quite a few bits of jewellery back in the day - Vader, Threepio and Artoo were the most popular.
