Docs & Socks

Sock In ProgressStill miffed by the lack of beads? Yeah, so am I.

Thing is, I'm not myself. Well I'm me, but I'm not right health-wise, if you see what I mean. I hate going to see the doctor. I have an if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it attitude to life and I always worry that they'll find more wrong with you than you think there is, so I tend to avoid health professionals as much as I can.

But lately I've had to accept that there's something not quite right with me. I went to the doctor early this morning and she is slightly baffled by my symptoms. These are too boring and numerous to list but let's just say that they're lady problems. Not actual ladypart problems but hormone-related ones. (Oh dear - is that too much information?) Doctorlady has narrowed it down to three possibilities. As such, I had to go back a bit later for blood tests so they can get more of an idea of what's wrong. I'll have to wait a couple of weeks for the results.

I was going to make beads today but all the to-ing and fro-ing with the doctor thing has put the kibosh on those plans so instead I'm knitting. A sock. And yes, I know I started a separate blog for the knitting but I couldn't be arsed with two different blogs so you'll have to put up with the occasional knitting-related post here!

I got a new book the other day called Socks From The Toe Up which is written by Wendy D. Johnson of Wendy Knits. She is an awesome sock knitter who writes about her work on her blog. One of my fave web reads. Anyway, the sock I'm working on is a pattern from the book and it's called 'Dead Simple Lace'. I'm knitting with a gorgeous pinky-purple cotton yarn. I'm looking forward to wearing these ones. I think they'll be nice and comfy.

I'll let you know if a miracle occurs and I create some un-cake-shaped beads .....

  5. Sorry to hear you are not your self these days. Nothing is worse than not knowing what the problem is, but still feeling crap. Don't worry about the beadmaking, take the rest whiile you can - it will come back at some point.

Did you get my little package.

  6. Who'd be a woman huh? Always seems to be one long round of never feeling quite right, I can entirely sympathise - hope you get it sorted quickly. In the meantime, knitting is great therapy!!

  7. I can sympathize. I am a doc-avoider myself. I avoided going for 3 years and when I did go my blood pressure was so high she wanted to put me in the hospital, but it was just because I was so frightened of what she'd say!! Have I gone back for a check up? NO. Anyway, my thoughts are with you!!

  8. Hope you feel better soon Laura! And pretty socks are just as much fun to look at as pretty beads. :) So please keep the pics and knitting posts coming. You've inspired me to pick up the hobby!

  9. Was thinking Doc Martins n pink socks there for a minute...

After the marathon cake-bead-making it's hardly surprising that you don't feel up to speed. Chill out & have some 'me' time.

Hope you're feeling better soon :-)

  10. Oh heck chuck - I hope Doctorlady can sort you out and you're feeling better soon. And don't put pressure on yourself about the beads, I'm sure your usual beady gorgeousness will return once you are feeling a bit better.

    Lots of love,

  11. Thank you all for your lovely comments and emails.

I hope that whatever's up with me is solved soon because then I can get back into some kind of beadmaking routine. I have lots of glassy ideas but zero inclination to do anything with them. Annoying!

  12. Laura, hope you're feeling better soon and the Doc can sort you out, you know your own body and you know when something isn't right! I've recently been diagnosed with Cancer which was a real bolt out of the blue.
