I'm finding typing this really hard as I'm looking at my laptop through tears. Dad called me this afternoon with some sad news. He was calling to say that Buster died this afternoon.
This was a total shock. I last saw Buster at the end of August and he was absolutely fine - eating, purring, sitting on my lap and generally just being himself. I always asked how he was whenever I spoke to Dad and the answer was always the same - he's fine.
But last night Buster was very ill and this morning he was even worse so Dad took him to the vet. The vet thinks that Buster has had bowel cancer for some time and last night something just went wrong. Because of his age - he was fourteen - the vet didn't think surgery and treatment would help him so Dad asked the vet to put Buster to sleep.
We'd had Buster since he was two. We got him from the Blue Cross and I fell in love with him the minute I saw him there. When I left home earlier this year I was distraught about leaving him and I've been missing him terribly. Chris doesn't like cats, you see, so Buster stayed with Dad. Although Buster was ill I'm pretty sure he wasn't suffering because as I say he was eating and everything and being his normal self.
I'm going to have to stop typing now. My laptop is getting very wet and I need to go and get a tissue and some paracetemol - I have a crying headache.
I just wanted to write a goodbye post for my Buster and to tell him thank you for being our cat. Love you, miss you and sleep well, FurryPurry. ~X~
I am so sorry - our pets always have a special place in our heart, and it's no fun when they pass on. Hugs to you, Laura x
ReplyDeleteoh I'm so so sorry Laura. It's awful to lose a cuddly friend. thinking of you x
ReplyDelete:o(
ReplyDeletethey attach themselves to our hearts and never let go.....it's unbearable when something like this happens
Buster looks just like the first cat I had when I was 10...we called her Clouseau, as when she arrived {at only a few weeks old} she wondered around the Living room bumping into things...we had been watching one of the Pink Panther films earlier in the day with Peter Sellers.....hence the name!
Sending you big bear hugs sweetie ;o)
hugs xxx
What sad news Laura. So sorry to hear. How lovely though that Buster was not suffering for ages, when it was his time it came quickly and that you had a good vet who suggested the best for Buster. Still devastating when it happens though. I am glad you have some wonderful photos of him. He will always be with you in your memory.
ReplyDeleteTake care

What lovely photographs of a much loved friend. I am so, so sorry; it's awful to lose a pet, especially one who was with you for so long. I have a big lump in my throat and tears in my eyes for you reading about your loss. I always enjoyed your posts about him, cat burglar and getting tangled up with your sock yarn stick in my mind.

Poor Buster. But I'm sure he had a very happy life with your family. Soon you'll be able to remember the good things about him and smile.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry...the life of our pets is too short...But he had a vey nice live - with people's love - your's and your Dad's.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear your sad news. It breaks my heart when special family members pass on. :( Jo
ReplyDeleteOh Laura, I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved Buster. I was sobbing so much reading your post. I'm such a big softie when it comes to animals as everyone on here is too. What a gorgeous cat he was. At least he didn't suffer. You'll be looking back at some of the posts that Sue mentioned above and hopefully the memories of what he used to get up to will raise a little smile - maybe not yet though - it's still too raw. Oh god, I'm filling up again! Take care Laura. Sending you a big <<>>

oh no, what sad news. so sorry laura. buster always seemed like a real character. sending you big hugs. just remember all those happy times buster gave you and all those smiles :) x
ReplyDeleteOh, I am hurting for you, Laura. I know how it feels and the pain will never truly cease completely, but it will get better. I lost my two cats within one month of each other and they were 19 and 20 years old. Very suddenly, just like Buster. Animals make our lives so much better, but it sure hurts to lose one, I know. My thoughts are with you. Marcy
ReplyDeleteOh Laura, I'm sorry to hear your sad news. What a beautiful boy and I'm sure he was so grateful to have had such a loving home xo
ReplyDeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteI too lost a pet and know your pain. Take care and know that our thoughts are with you....Valerie
Oh Laura, big hugs.
ReplyDeleteHe will be sorely missed what a real character he was.
At least from the sounds of things it was quick and he wasn't in pain.
Happy purring in kitty heaven Buster x
Oh I'm so sorry Laura - I know exactly how you are feeling, having been through the same a few months ago with my dog. It was probably for the best, painful though it is for you, and he had a long and very happy life. Sending you lots of hugs,
ReplyDeleteCaroline xx

Hello Laura,
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry. Buster was a beautiful cat. His personality shows even in your photos. As Marcia mentioned, the pain will lessen with time. And even though he's not there with you physically, he'll always be with you in your heart. He's resting and safe now. Please take care of yourself during this time. Lori
Aaw he's a really beautiful cat.
ReplyDeleteThe best advice is to remember the good times with him (I bet there are loads!) and that the bad feelings will fade in time.
I know about this, I've had plenty of cats and can remember them all with very fond memories. You'll be fine! x
I'm soooo sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you feel - and our animals are family.
ReplyDeleteReally painful - hoping you'll take comfort in your beautiful memories of a wonderful friend.
All the best,
Sera
I'm so sorry and I feel your pain. I had a beloved dog that I had to leave with my Mom that was euthanized due to cancer. Let the tears flow. It helps, a bit.
